Aeshnina Holding a plastic trash bag from the target supermarket
Following up on
ongoing shipments of plastic waste from the United States to Indonesia, We from the River Warrior Community are
protesting against the policy of the United States Government which still exports trash to Indonesia, River Warrior
urges the United States Government:
1. Stop sending
mixed and dirty paper and plastic waste to Indonesia
2. Clean up piles of plastic waste dumped in rural areas around the paper factory that originated in the United States
3. Become a member country of the Basel Convention to support fair and responsible plastic waste management
4. Managing
waste in their own country and not turning developing countries into
landfills
5. Tighten
supervision at US ports so that no more mixed and dirty plastic and paper
waste is sent back to Indonesia.
United States Unchanged
"In 2019, the United States promised to improve its waste and recycling management and contribute to efforts to tackle global plastic waste pollution. However, this is contrary to the fact that the number of used plastic exports from the United States to poor countries has increased from 45 million tons to 48 million tons in January 2021, " said Aeshnina Azzahra aqilani, Co-Captain of River Warrior Indonesia, who once sent a letter of protest to Donald Trump, the President of the United States to stop sending plastic waste to Indonesia. The plan is that River Warriors Indonesia will hold a protest in front of the Consulate General of the United States in Surabaya. "This protest action asks the United States Government to become a member of the Basel Convention and no longer send plastic waste to developing countries like Indonesia," said Aeshnina. Aeshnina continued, saying she would ride a bicycle with 10 of her friends to the consulate general of the United States on Thursday, March 25, 2021
