Thursday, March 25, 2021, 50 members of the river warrior came to the office of the American Consulate General in Surabaya using bicycles covering a distance of 25 km. They delivered a letter to Joe Biden to stop exporting waste to Indonesia
Priver warrior, a community of young women in Indonesia who are struggling to protect rivers from plastic pollution, asked the United States government to stop exporting plastic waste to Indonesia. River Warrior also reminded Americans to reduce their use of single-use plastics. besides being able to pollute the environment in other countries it also has health impacts for citizens of the United States.
Plastic
waste from the USA flooded Indonesia Again, although it is classified as
illegal, more and more trash from the United States has entered Indonesia.
“We
invite the people of the United States to join #2021STOPEATINGPLASTIC” Said
Sofi Azilan Aini, a River warrior activist, furthermore, a student of the
faculty of public health at the University of NU Surabaya explained that We
must stop the daily consumption of single-use plastics. “Not in a difficult
way, we can start by reducing our body's exposure to single-use plastics from
now on” Said Sofi Azilan Aini.
According
to the results of research by American scientist Shanna H Swan in 2015 she
found that the sperm concentration of citizens in western countries has
continued to decline since 1985. “The estimate is that in 2045 men in western
countries will have a concentration of 0 sperm in 106 / ml of sperm.”
Said Sofi. This is thought to occur due to various cases, such as genetic and
environmental factors, environmental factors caused by exposure to harmful EDCS
chemicals or hormone disrupting chemicals additives in the manufacture of
plastics such as phthalates, bisphenols, pfas, and flame retardant pesticides
or due to unhealthy lifestyle factors.
The
chemicals that make up the plastic can cause various kinds of disorders in the
hormonal system such as decreased sperm count, short anus to genitals distance,
small penis and scrotrum size, reduced testosterone, and genital birth defects
are examples of reproductive problems that occur in men, whereas what happens
to women is low birth weight or premature babies, menstrual problems, the
lining of the wall that grows outside the uterus or endometriosis,
malfunctioning ovaries that cause infertility before the age of 40 years, early
puberty, and miscarriage.
Not
only that, there are other dangers that can be experienced by both sexes, such
us infertility, sexuality, hormonal disorders, low sexual appetite, DNA damage
in sperm, and failure of treatment. If we don't change our lifestyle to be
disposable and healthier anti-plastic, surely we will avoid these hormonal
disorders.
