Aeshnina Azzahra Aqilani met with Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in the middle of a Dinner held Thursday evening 19.00 Korean Time in room 121, BEXCO Exhibition II, Busan South Korea at INC 5.
During this meeting, Nina, Aeshnina, showed replicas of babies contaminated with microplastics in jars. This replica shows that microplastics have threatened the safety of unborn babies. Nina then asked for a group photo while carrying a topless baby but Inger Andersen walked away saying "it is too much! (this is too much)" while avoiding the replica of the baby in the jar.
Nina then approached the Director of UNEP, who has held the position since 2019. Nina pointed out the condition of the paper recycling industry which uses imported paper raw materials from developed countries such as the United States, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Canada and Australia, "Recycling imported waste in Indonesia pollutes the environment said Nina
Inger responded that the facts that Nina revealed must be
conveyed to the Indonesian government. "These (facts) must be shown to
your country. I know scary facts (about recycling) in your country
(Indonesia)," said Inger Andersen, Nina also responded by asking Inger
Andersen to implement a strong treaty to protect the environment and humans
from the threat of microplastics. "We need strong trearty!" said
Nina, and Inger said Yes, Yes.
"Until the third day, many people were disappointed and thought the system in INC 5 was disappointing and some people were pessimistic. So, having the opportunity to meet Inger, I had to convey the young people's message to her," said Nina.
